It is hard to believe that anyone that has seen an animal die from from poison would do it. We live in a world with a lot of mean people.
This week we had another antifreeze case. It came in with seizures, had chewed it's tongue and was bleeding from the mouth. The owner was hysterical with grief. There was nothing that could be done but to end the suffering.
Antifreeze is extremely potent. It destroys the kidneys. Once ingested there is only a 12 hour window when treatment may be effective. Intially the animal may be somewhat incoordinated or depressed, but usually when symptoms appear it is too late for treatment.
For those familiar with antifreeze poisoning initial observation gives a clue. Kidney function tests confirm it. To prosecute a poisoner it is necessary to have the state diagnostic lab confirm it. There must also be a positive connection with the bait and the poisoner.
Note the "Abuse Page" regarding rewards for people that will help with prosecuting these dispecable indiduals.
